8 SEO Trends in 2010

Rand of seomoz.org has pointed out 8 trends in SEO that we saw 2010. Read on to get an informal gist of it all.

Real-Time Search

Major search engines are integrating their SERP’s with Twitter data. Initially, Microsoft announced their integration. Google has followed suit and has also released a test version of their Twitter integration.

Twitter’s “Link Graph”

Another addition to Google’s innovative ways to keep content recommended and suggested. Initially determining popularity and relevance using PageRank, Google is now aiming to use Twitter’s data to determine page ranking in the near future.

Personalized Search

‘Personalized search results’ is the next big thing. Google released their personalization results last week, followed by Bing this week. You will be able to keep track of visit history, time on page, bookmarks etc. subsequently influencing search results.

The 80/20 Share

In the US, Google can be seen as slowly continuing to gain market share while Bing and Yahoo! are competing for the rest. The market share comparison currently is 80% Google and 20% Bing and Yahoo.

Site Explorer & Linkdomain

Site Explorer and Link Domain are going towards turning obsolete. Neither Yahoo Nor Bing have shown any interest in continuing with Site Explorer. Yahoo is not willing to take the expense in 2010 of maintaining a web index when they don’t really need it.

Dramatic Rise in SEO Spending

According to a Forrester Report, the next three years will see the most growth in the following interactive marketing tactics: Created Social Media, Online Video, SEO and Mobile Marketing.

Year Marked by Conversion Rate Optimization

CRO has been the most under-utilized yet highest ROI activity in the marketing department. More awareness is on its way in 2010 as marketers learn that CRO is not just about testing is an important process for increasing conversion rate over time.

More Queries, Less Traffic

Both Google and Bing are focusing on 2010 as the year to make their visitors’ experience more productive. Focus is on a single visit being able to have more queries answered. A lot of results therefore like weather, time, game scores etc. are being displayed on the search engines themselves without having the visitor’s to leave the page.
